Candidate Briefing Pack | HCUC

Welcome

Dear applicant,

The merger of Uxbridge College and Harrow College from 1st August 2017 has created a new and exciting opportunity for the merged organisation to respond on a broader canvass to the education and skills needs of the communities of West London. The name of the new umbrella corporation also changed from 1st August 2017 to HCUC in order to reflect more appropriately the ambitions of the new college group.

HCUC aims to develop an outstanding further education provision that:

  • Maximises the volume of high quality education and training, and the opportunities for success of students and communities in the locality and region
  • Achieves a grade of outstanding for its effectiveness by Ofsted
  • Responds to employers’ and residents’ needs for skills – to become the preferred provider in specialist areas
  • Maintains and develops an effective and robust strategic partnership with individual local authorities, the West London Alliance and Greater London Authority, local schools, Higher Education institutions and other organisations (3rd sector, independent training providers etc.).

In order to achieve this, the decision to merge our resources and talents is critical to ensuring the delivery of long-term sustainable and cohesive further education provision for West London. This will be particularly important given the current high level of downward pressure on college income nationally as it will enable our communities to realise their ambitions, and local businesses and industry to continue to access a well-trained and qualified talent pool for their future success. It will also allow the further development of provision at all levels, but particularly at higher levels in the London Economic Action Partnership (LEAP) priority areas, and add value to our engagement with employers.

In this high profile college group role, the Executive Director - Corporate Services will work to ensure the effective integration and harmonisation of core corporate services arising from the merger process.

The post holder will be part of an Executive Team of seven, and will report to the Group Principal & CEO.

A key performance output measure for the post holder will be to ensure corporate services that are high quality, efficient and excellent value for money.

The enclosed vision document provides good profile details of the two constituent colleges that comprise HCUC, and sets out in more detail our ambitions for the future.

I do hope that you find the advertised post to be of interest and I look forward to receiving your application in due course.

Yours sincerely,

Laraine Smith OBE
Group Principal & Chief Executive
